Raghubar Das: Cyber crime bigger challenge than Maoists

RANCHI: Chief minister Raghubar Das on Wednesday asked the state's police machinery to embrace technology and enhance its knowledge to tackle cyber crime and new challenges in policing. "Cyber crime has emerged as a big challenge for the state. Das, who was speaking after attending a Police Decoration function and a parade held at JAP-I ground in Doranda, said cyber crime is a challenge for the state's police force ahead of Left-wing insurgency. Among the police officers felicitated with the President's Police Medal for gallantry included Bokaro DIG Prabhat Kumar, Khunti SP Ashwani Kumar Sinha and SP (operation) Md Arsi.

Das, who was speaking after attending a Police Decoration function and a parade held at JAP-I ground in Doranda, said cyber crime is a challenge for the state's police force ahead of Left-wing insurgency."Cyber crime has emerged as a big challenge for the state. There are three districts where police from across the country visit frequently in connection cyber fraud cases. We must remove the blot on the state by taking suitable measures," Das said. The CM announced that cyber police stations are being opened in every district and a few have become functional.As many 102 police officers and jawans were honoured for bravery and distinguished services in the function. In addition, the families of seven policemen, who were killed on duty, were also felicitated on the occasion.Speaking on Left-wing insurgency, Das said the ultras have been eliminated from 80% of the state's area. "Our aim is to make the state extremist-free, which is very much possible," he added. Das said his government will root out the goons and con men who were who are extracting levy posing as Naxalites.State police chief D K Pandey said 349 police officers and jawans have been martyred fighting the extremists in the state. He said 15,000 policemen have been appointed by the home department in the past two years, which is a record.Speaking at the occasion, Das said the state government was working on a proposal to give police the wages of one extra month. "We had promised earlier that policemen will get salaries of 13 months every year. The work for it is in progress and the police are likely to get its benefit from next year," he added.The CM also saluted women whose husband and children were martyred fighting extremists and said the government would always support them.
