4 Assam-based NADF cadres held in Sahibganj

Dumka: Four militants of the Assam-based National Adivasi Democratic Force (NADF) were arrested from Barhet police station by the Sahibganj police on Sunday. Those arrested have been identified as Sochil Hembrom, Mikal Marandi, Suniram Murmu and Badal Hasda who were frequenting Sahibganj for the last couple of years and had undergone arms training in Myanmar.Police have also seized firearms and other items from them during the raid conducted at their hideout in Bhairodhab village on Sunday following specific information. Sahibganj SP Naushad Alam while briefing the media late Sunday evening said the four NADF militants, all belonging to Kokrajhar district of Assam, were planning to extort Rs 25 lakh from a local businessman, Lalu Bhagat.We had inputs about the presence of a group of NADF militants in Bhairodhab village under Barhet police station to extort money from local businessmen, the SP said, adding that a special police team led by the sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) of Barharwa arrested all the four militants.An extortion letter written on the NADF letter pad jointly signed by its commander-in-chief and deputy commander-in-chief dated October 7, 2023, was also recovered during the raid which has been addressed to one Lalu Bhagat, a local businessman demanding Rs 25 lakh and threatening to blow up his petrol pump and house if he refuses to pay or inform the police.The SP claimed that the four NADF militants also intended to recruit local tribal youths and expand its base in the district.
