‘Bootleggers dodge cops with multi-state number plates’

Chatra: Many interstate gangs operational in Jharkhand-Bihar for smuggling of brown sugar, opium, marijuana and liquor use multiple number plates on the vehicles to ferry illegal consignment between the two states to hoodwink security forces, Chatra police said.On Sunday, two registration number plates of Jharkhand and Bihar were seized from a pick-up van that was transporting spurious liquor in large quantity to Bihar. The arrested driver, Jitendra Kumar Thakur, a resident of Itkhori block in Chatra district, told the police they use the registration number of this state when in Jharkhand, and the other one in Bihar to dodge the police. They also use fake numbers, he added.Smugglers also ride bikes and even take women as pillion to hoodwink police, said police. SDPO Avinash Kumar said, Regular action is being taken and we have been able to recover spurious liquor in huge quantity. Shah expressed confidence that BBSSL would benefit small farmers, including women, through profit sharing. The society will act as an apex organization for seed production, procurement, processing, marketing, and distribution. It will also focus on research and development and the preservation of indigenous natural seeds.
