Students’ union seeks CBI probe

Ranchi: The Jharkhand State Students Union (JSSU) on Wednesday announced to launch a massive agitation on Friday over alleged cheating in several appointment examinations, including those for junior engineers, lab assistant technicians, and municipal service cadre positions by Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission.JSSU also demanded a CBI investigation into the allegations, non-TCS digital dummy examination centres, release of exam results in lab assistant technician exam, student rights and safety in municipal services cadre appointment exam.JSSU members highlighted the issues concerning the alleged hostage of students who protested against sealing without question booklets in various state-run examination centres during the Municipal Services Cadre Appointment Examination.JSSU leader Devendranath Mahato said, Students from all over the state will unite in their call for a fair investigation of the exams. Nikita Kumari and Ankita Choudhary secured the second and third positions, respectively. All three of them have been allotted the Bihar Administrative Service (BAS). The top eight positions include four females. The BPSC announced that a total of 799 candidates were declared successful out of 802 vacancies. The final merit list was prepared based on the marks obtained in the written and viva examinations.Mahua Moitra seeks permission to cross-examine alleged bribe giverTrinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra has shared a letter she wrote to the Lok Sabha Ethics Committee, stating that she will appear before them to refute the cash-for-query allegations against her. Moitra emphasized the need for law enforcement agencies to be involved in such cases and requested the opportunity to cross-examine the alleged bribe-giver and the complainant. She also raised concerns about the double standards of the Ethics Committee in issuing a summons to her while handling a similar complaint against a BJP MP differently.State appoints members for rights panelDesmond DCosta and Pramod Kamat have been appointed as members of the Goa Human Rights Commission, which had become non-functional after the previous chairpersons term ended. DCosta will act as the chairperson until a new one is appointed. The commission, established in 2011, is tasked with ensuring that public officials do not violate human rights.
