Daltonganj: The lone elusive tiger that has been roaming inside the Palamu Tiger Reserve (PTR) since October 20, which has been corroborated by several evidence, was finally captured by a camera trap.Deputy director of the south division of the tiger reserve, Kumar Ashish, said the footage of the tiger was captured on Sunday night. He said, The tiger has been spotted in the south division of the reserve.I cant disclose the range and location of the tiger to ensure its safety.Ashish further said, The Wildlife Institute of India, Dehradun, will now be assured of our claim of the presence of tiger in our reserve. Camera trapping of tigers is an undeniable evidence. Though we sent samples of scat, pugmarks and hair of the tiger to the institute for genetic analysis around October 20, we had no camera footage of the big cat to further support our claims. There are four ranges in each of the south and the north divisions of the PTR.Ashish said, The tiger killed an adult buffalo. Our camera trapped the tiger barely a kilometre away from the kill. The tiger was trying to ensure his privacy before eating the buffalo. We are waiting for the buffalo owner to come and provide us with the details of the buffalo, he added.Livestock grazing is strictly prohibited in the core area of the PTR. Buffaloes leave a repulsive stink in the water holes. No wildlife drinks from the water holes that are visited by buffaloes because of the stink.
