Self-help group members to take part in ‘Jal Diwali’ to learn about quality drinking water

Ranchi: The state urban development department on Tuesday announced the rollout of Jal Diwali, a special campaign across different municipal bodies in the state under which women self-help groups will be taken to water treatment plants on exposure tours.Scheduled between Tuesday and Thursday, the programme is part of the nationwide campaign by the ministry of housing and urban affairs.Self-help groups functioning under the National Urban Livelihood Mission (NULM) will be taken out on tours, the department said in an official statement.In Jharkhand, Jal Diwali will be celebrated across 31 water treatment plants across different municipal bodies from November 7 to 9. The theme of this programme is Water for Women and Women for Water, under which women of SHGs will be taken on tour to the nearest water treatment plant to provide them information about water purification and various processes involving this job. This will help them know about the importance of clean water and also safeguarding waterbodies. The women, in turn, can educate their children and family members, the urban development department stated. The district collector has also instructed the PHED to deploy water tankers at specific locations during the festival. Despite most officials being on election duty, additional manpower will be deployed during the festival days.BJP ropes in women leaders from across states to campaign in RajasthanThe BJP is mobilizing women leaders from other states to counter the Congress women-centric welfare schemes in Rajasthan. Women leaders from Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Delhi, and Jammu Kashmir are campaigning in various constituencies to publicize the Modi governments schemes and programs. The Congress government in Rajasthan has launched several schemes to reach out to women voters, including the Indira Gandhi Smartphone Yojna, Annapurna Food Packet Scheme, and free sanitary napkin scheme. Women constitute about 50% of the total voters in the state.
