Govt to challenge HC directive on chit-fund money return in SC

Ranchi: The state government on Wednesday informed the Jharkhand high court of its decision to challenge its order before the Supreme Court in a case related to the return of funds to investors of chit-fund companies.A bench of Chief Justice Sanjaya Kumar Mishra and Justice Ananda Sen was hearing a PIL filed for the return of money invested in chit-fund companies by investors.The PIL was filed by the Non Banking Abhikarta Ewam Niwesak Surakcha Samittee through its president, Javed Akhtar, to seek a direction from the high court to ensure the return of the funds.On September 11, the bench ordered the government to form a high-level committee headed by a former chief justice of a high court and two other members to look into the procedure for the return of funds to the innocent investors from the money confiscated from the Non-Banking Financial Companies (NBFC) and the chit fund companies within 45 days.
