Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar on Saturday said coordination between the treasury and opposition benches was needed for democracy to flourish. Dhankhar was addressing legislators of the Chhattisgarh Assembly during the third session of the orientation programme. Dhankhar said a cordial atmosphere was needed in the House and there should not be any competition between members. There is a continuous process of learning and the new members follow the practice laid by old members, he said. Citing the drafting process of the Indian constitution, the Vice President said the members of state assemblies should be well versed with provisions in the constitution. The legislative members enjoy the power of framing new laws fulfilling the aspirations of citizens, he said. Every right has with it the responsibility and every word spoken by the members is scripted as history, the Vice President said. The power of the opposition lies in a smooth conduct of the legislature and people of country want their issues to be raised in the House, he said. The criticism of treasury benches should be done in a creative way and should be solution-oriented, he added.
