Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Saturday said legislators in the Chhattisgarh Assembly can carve a model state with innovative thoughts and by setting new traditions in the House. Birla said this while guiding the newly elected legislators on the inaugural day of a two-day orientation programme. He said the Assembly was a temple of the constitution and graceful behaviour by legislators was needed to maintain its sacredness. The Speaker advised the MLAs to study the past proceedings to enhance their knowledge and improve their ability to speak in the House. The study of parliamentary tradition, rules and regulations of the House will benefit the MLAs, he said. Birla also advocated increasing the sittings of MLAs in the House and said they would be able to represent their constituencies much better if they do so. Praising Chhattisgarh, Birla said the state was full of diversities and enriched with cultural traditions. It has tremendous possibility of progressing and it should adapt the innovations of other states, he said. The third session of the inaugural day featured Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar as the chief guest. Speakers on the first day included Uttar Pradesh Speaker Satish Mahana and Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya.
