Shillong: Former Meghalaya CM and Trinamool Congress legislator Dr Mukul Sangma on Tuesday brought to the notice of the assembly a photograph of CM Conrad Sangma and his wife with Henry Lalremsanga, an alleged kingpin involved in smuggling of drugs in Mizoram and the rest of the northeast. This elicited a strong denial from Conrad who termed the allegation the most ridiculous way of proving anything. It is sad that a person of his level brought in a photograph and just jumped to a conclusion. Connecting people based on a photograph of two people being clicked together I think in todays world, it is the most ridiculous way of proving anything. So I have no comment to say about that, the chief minister said.I meet and I sit and I click pictures with millions of people. Even while walking in the street, somebody will stop me, I never say no, because we are public figures, he added. I think connecting two individuals activities based on a photograph is the most illogical conclusion that anybody can jump to. It has to be based on evidence and on proof of what activities were taking place, he iterated.Taking part in the discussion on a motion regarding the menace of drugs and substance abuse in the state, Mukul quoted a media report of April 2013 about the arrest of Henry, hailing from Mizoram in connection with the seizure of pseudoephedrine tablets valued at Rs 6 crore allegedly from the son of a former Congress MLA.We also published the following articles recentlyAssam CM Sarma discusses border dispute with his Meghalaya counterpart Conrad SangmaAssam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma met in Shillong to discuss the Assam-Meghalaya border dispute.
