SDB junks rumour of chief’s retirement

Surat: The Surat Diamond Bourse (SDB) on Thursday issued a letter to dismiss a rumour that its chairman Vallabh Lakhani had retired from the post. The letter also announced the formation of a cooperative service society and appointment of Nagji Sakariya as its president. The letter was issued after the rumour spread like a wildfire on social media that Lakhani had retired from the post of chairman. Insiders claim the reason behind the rumour was the appointment of Sakariya as the president of the cooperative society.Beacuse of Sakariyas appointment, people thought that he had replaced Lakhani and that sparked the rumour. But there is no change in the board of directors and its chairman, said an official.The cooperative service society has been formed to look after the day-to-day management and development work on SDB campus. Sakariya will chair the society committee to which 29 members have been appointed, said the letter.To stop wrong information from being spread, we decided to issue the letter. Vallabhbhai is the pioneer of this project and he will continue to lead us, said Nilesh Bodki, SDB committee member. SDB is scheduled to be inaugurated on December 17 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The case involves allegations that members of the Alipurduar Mahila Rindan Samabay Samiti failed to return money deposited with the society, resulting in a loss of over Rs 50 crore. The society had given loans to borrowers who never repaid the money, leading to its defunct status. The CIDs investigation into the case was deemed unsatisfactory, prompting the court to transfer the case to the CBI and ED.Mayor issues sanction letter to revise pay of municipal staffThe Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has revised the salaries of daily wage workers in accordance with the Central Pay Commission. The safaikaramcharis and other such employees were previously receiving salaries based on the Fifth Pay Commission. The decision to implement the 6th Pay Commission and Central Pay Commission was approved in a meeting held by the Municipal Corporation. The revision of salaries will be effective from January 2016 to March 2022, and from April 2022 onwards.
