Children’s Parliament in Varanasi seeks death penalty for rape of minor girls

VARANASI: A special session of the Children’s Parliament, held at Varunanagara Colony in Hukulganj on Friday, unequivocally demanded capital punishment for the rapists of minor girls. Another member, Ili, proposed capital punishment for the rape of girls below 13 years. A member, Ujala Bratavanshi, raised the issue inviting discussion. Speaker Khushi Raman maintained the order and began the proceedings. Besides, it also proposed setting up of ‘Beti Suraksha Samitis’ at police station level, listing of eve-teasers and abusers in police diary, ending all rights of child rapists, and strict action against police officials for ignoring such cases.The body came into existence in 2008 and is a unique body elected by the children of six to 13 age group.The session was convened to discuss the increasing incidents of rape of minor girls in the country.

The other members also proposed that facilities like voter I-card, PAN card, Aadhaar card and bank account of child abusers should be cancelled.It was also resolved that a letter of condemnation should be given to the district magistrate and superintendent of police if such incidents occur in their area.It was also decided to appeal the chief minister for quick and effective action in such cases.The meeting was also addressed by the president of Muslim Mahila Foundation Nazneen Ansari.A miniature parliament, the body occasionally takes up issues of importance.
