VARANASI: Police on Wednesday arrested three persons and seized Indian made foreign liquor (IMFL) worth Rs 40 lakh from their possession in in Rasara area of Ballia district.Four other members of the gang managed to flee during the raind. During interrogation they confided that they had smuggled 700 cartons of adulterated liquor from Haryana. The smugglers had managed to take away 179 cartons in SUVs before the police raid. He said that a mandunt has been launched to nab the absconding smugglers. The consignment was to be smuggled to Bihar, where liquor consumption is banned.According to reports, acting on a tip off the police conducted a raid at Motipura village, where the cartons of liquor were being unloaded from a container (RJ 02 GB 0516) and a truck (UP 14 AH 9597).The police seized the IMFL bottles packed in 521 cartons and arrested three persons including Israj of Buxur (Bihar), Sarfaraz and SAbbu, both from Firozpur (Haryana).The arrested persons were booked under sections 419 (cheating by personation), 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property)m 272 (adulteration of food or drink intended for sale) and 273 (sale of noxious food or drink) of IPC, and 60, 63 and 72 of Excise Act.The ASP Vikrant Veer said that the arrested persons were challaned on Thursday.
