Threat to blow up Sankat Mochan temple

VARANASI: The priest, Vishwambhar Nath Mishra, of Sankat Mochan temple in Varanasi received a letter on Monday night via post threatening to blow up the temple. It seems to be a mischief by some anti-social elements to disturb city’s peace, but we cannot take it lightly ,” Mishra told TOI. The matter was immediately reported to the Lanka police and the letter was handed over to them. Following the threat , police swung into action and launched a massive checking drive at temple premises, ghats, places of public gathering and other sensitive sites in the city in view of Babri Masjid demolition anniversary on Thursday.“In the letter, the senders introduced themselves as members of the gang of some Shahabuddin, and claimed to have carried out blasts previously,” Mishra said, adding they also claimed that the gang owned sophisticated weapons like AK-47 rifles.“The letter was written in crude Hindi and signed by two persons.
