Mauritian envoy traces PM's lineage in Ballia

VARANASI: In search of the lineage of Prime Minister of Mauritius Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, Mauritian high commissoner Jagishwar Goburdhun visited Ballia district on Thursday. He wants to meet the people of his lineage and establish relationship with them, said Goburdhun making an appeal to unite the parted family. It is a moral duty to unite the families parted over a century ago. Mauritius observed holiday on November 2 to celebrate Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas (Arrival of Indentured).Ballia district magistrate Bhawani Singh Khangarot , other administrative officials and prominent local citizens were present at the meeting. "We want to unite all the parted families to establish direct relationship in years to come," he said adding that chief minister Yogi Adityanath had visited Mauritius and attended the Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas on November 2, 2017.

He met the natives of several villages at Rasara and made a fervent appeal for their active support in this search.According to him, during British rule, the Mauritian PM's ancestors, belonging to Rasara area, had moved to Mauritius as indentured migrants to work in sugarcane fields in 1873. He wants to meet the people of his lineage and establish relationship with them, said Goburdhun making an appeal to unite the parted family. It is a moral duty to unite the families parted over a century ago. It can be done by enquiring locals about their Mauritus link, he said.During his trip to India in January, the Mauritian PM is expected to visit Ballia on January 24 to meet the native people and interact with them, he said adding that a large number of people had migrated to Mauritus about 150 years ago.
