Allahabad: With over two crore pilgrims expected to take a dip in Sangam on Basant Panchami on Sunday, Mela police beefed up security on the Kumbh-2019 venue and deployed more personnel on the ground a day before the third shahi snan of Kumbh-2019.Basant Panchami, to be observed on Sunday, would be the last shahi snan of the Kumbh Mela.On Saturday, Mela police conducted a crowd management exercise for its personnel on six points of the ground—Kali Marg, Triveni Marg, Sangam nose, Sangam Lower Marg, Akshayvat marg and Mahavir Marg.Police said that 12 deputy SPs, 24 inspectors, 500 policemen and two companies of the Border Security Force (BSF) were deployed as part of the security arrangements for the snan.SSP (Kumbh) KP Singh, said, “As Basant Panchami will be the last shahi snan of the Kumbh Mela, we have restricted the movement on pontoon bridges from one to five.” Singh said that pontoon bridges number 6 and 7 would be open for devotees as they connect Parade Ground area and Jhunsi.He also said that more volunteers have been roped in at the ghats stretching across eight kilometre for regulating the crowd.Singh said that pontoon bridge number 9 to 16 would be open for devotees going from Jhunsi area to Parade Ground area, while devotees commuting from Parade Ground area to Arial Ghat area could use pontoon bridge number 18 -20.Mela district magistrate Vijay Kiran Anand, said, “The Mela administration would ensure that akharas follow instructions about the number of vehicles allowed and the timings during the shahi snan.”
