Visakhapatnam: Octopus , the elite counter-terrorism unit of AP, has been pressed into action along with anti-insurgency force Greyhounds and other special forces as part of security measures for the three-day CII-Partnership Summit that begins on Saturday.According to sources, around 2,000 security personnel from various districts have already been deployed at the venue since Thursday. The forces include AP Special Police, Armed Reserve cops besides various wings of the police department.“Four units each of elite forces such as Octopus and Greyhounds have conducted mock drills at various places in the city including the summit venue. They have also checked all the hotels allotted to the guests, many of whom are coming from outside the country,” a senior police officer from the city’s security wing said.More than eight SP rank officers, 40 ASPs and DSPs are already on the job along with cops from Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakha rural, East Godavari, Rajahmundry urban police, West Godavari, Krishna and also from Prakasam. The city police has set up 14 check-posts at the main junctions of the city such as Maddilapalem, Hanumanthawaka, Yendada and other areas, besides the roads that lead to the main venue on beach road. Checkpoints have also been set up on the outskirts of the city.Apart from this, another 10 additional police pickets are to be put up as part of the security measures. Police wings like bomb disposal and dog squads have been continuously at work. Anti-sabotage drills are also on at the venue and also at the hotels where the VIPs would be staying. Surveillance cameras have been fixed at all the key junctions, venue and other areas and would be monitored 24x7 through the command control centre.
