Long wait of AU non-regular staff to end soon

A proposal has been sent to the government and the authorities concerned have given a favourable nod, said Vice-Chancellor G. Nageswara Rao. There are two types of non-regular employees in the non-teaching sector – the minimum time scale employees and the 28 days employees. The minimum time scale employees are given the same basic in tune with the regular employees with DA and city compensatory allowances. But they do not enjoy other benefits such as pension and other allowances. The 28 days employees are paid wages as per the labour laws, based on their skills. While there are about 400 employees under the minimum time scale, there are about 300 under the 28 days scheme. The recruitment for non-teaching staff has been stopped in 1994, and there is shortage of at least 1500 people. “We have been managing by recruiting people under these two categories, and now we have recommended for regularising them. Many of them have already put up over 20 years of service,” said Prof. Nageswara Rao. If the proposal for absorption into regular rolls is accepted by the government, then the salary component that is now being borne by the university, will be taken care of by the government. The government gives a block grant of about ?310 to ?313 crore and the entire amount is utilised for salaries and pension. “The salary component for both the non-regular categories comes to around ?. 15 crore per annumand we can utilise the amount now being spent from the university funds for research and development or infrastructure building,” said the V-C. PF paid The EC has also approved and paid ? 7 crore into the PF account of both the non-regular employee categories that has been long pending. “We have also approved and paid the leave encashment for the academic non-vacation staff (such as distance education and library staff). We have have also extended 30 % fee concession to children of all employees from both the categories,” said Prof. Nageswara Rao.
