‘Consultation on land-pooling for housing to begin soon’

The 900 acres there belonged to government of which 126 acres is assigned and 491 acres under unauthorised agriculture, according to Municipal Administration Minister P. Narayana. However, the government would like to carry out a process of consultation with the farmers there for land-pooling and the Collector and the Joint Collector needed up to 30 days to consult each and every farmer and involving the MLA too, he told reporters here. A transparent consultation process would be taken up and all the incentives given at Amaravati in land-pooling would be given, he said. Of the available land, 150 acres would be utilised for stadium and other social infrastructure and in 300 acres housing units would be constructed. While Visakhapatnam district was sanctioned 54295 houses, the requirement in the corporation area alone was one lakh, he told reporters amid a review meeting with officials of four districts, GVMC and VUDA here on Monday evening. All over the State 6.81 lakh houses have been sanctioned for urban areas and 4.91 lakh would be in ‘G+3’ structures. For 1.3 lakh tenders have been finalised and on 50 % of them work had begun. Mr. Narayana said the District Collector was also asked to see the possibility of land-pooling wherever possible. Mr. Narayana said to further improve infrastructure in GVMC new buildings would be constructed for four schools running in shifts and completed in three months. For 78 schools, toilets would be constructed based on the model of Vijayawada lauded by every one. Mr. Narayana said 4000 anganwadi centres in municipalities were converted into pre-schools and the remaining 3000 would be done in the next three months in coordination with ICDS. With the success of a junior college at Nellore, the MA &UD Department was planning to start junior colleges in all 100 municpalities, he said. GVMC Commissioner M. Hari Narayanan was present.
