Special training programmes should also be conducted for the teachers of the English medium sections, which were introduced from this academic year at several primary schools across the state,” he said. Visakhapatnam: For the first time, the Andhra Pradesh State Council of Educational Research and Training ( SCERT ) has launched a state-wide survey to identify the training needs of the in-service teachers.Earlier, the SCERT used to design the training programmes on its own without necessarily taking inputs of all teachers. Now, the nearly 1.5 lakh government in-service teachers will participate in the survey through a questionnaire formulated for the purpose of gaining insights into various components of school education.Based on the aggregated answers and comparisons, future training programmes can be tweaked to serve the specific needs of teachers. The questionnaire, available with TOI, covered various segments including content, pedagogy, teaching-learning process, classroom management, handling of assessments, academic standards, learning outcomes, continuous professional development, life skills, and co-curricular activities.State coordinator/administrator of E-Knowledge eXchange, Pokuri Srinivasarao, said the survey can even identify specific needs of a region or the district. “The nearly 60 questions of the survey will help identify gaps, if any, between the existing situation and the desired status, which can be translated into target group training programmes,” said Srinivasa Rao.Some of the questions of the survey are aimed at obtaining in-depth information from the teachers. For example, a question under ‘content category’ asks the teachers to rate how much academic support on difficult topics they need on a scale of 1 to 5. We were earlier giving feedback on training programmes as part of the U-DISE (Unified District Information System for Education) surveys. We ask the government to immediately fill the vacancies at schools as it can hamper the academic calendar. Special training programmes should also be conducted for the teachers of the English medium sections, which were introduced from this academic year at several primary schools across the state,” he said.
