Araku MLA exMLA on visit to village shot dead by Maoists

VISAKHAPATNAM: In the first major strike against elected representatives in the two Telugu states in 13 years, CPI Maoists gunned down sitting Araku TDP MLA Kidari Sarweswara Rao and former Araku MLA Siveri Soma in the agency area of Visakhapatnam on Sunday afternoon. The MLA did not inform us about his visit to Dumbriguda . Police said Sarveswara Rao had not informed them about the visit to the agency area. “We have alerted all the people’s representatives to be careful well in advance in view of the Maoists formation day celebrations. “After we stopped, few persons carrying AK-47s threatened to kill us if we do not surrender our weapons,” Soma’s gunman A V A Swamy told TOI.
