Visakhapatnam: Dyslexia is not about intelligence. Though some claim that dyslexic kids are lazy and unsmart. It is untrue, said Kenneth Pugh, president and director of research, Haskins Laboratories.Delivering the keynote address at Tech 2018 here on Saturday, Dr Pugh said, “The real promise of neuroscience is the ability to tailor the treatment to each individual. Most kids respond to the treatment. In one of our studies, 75% kids responded well and 25% didn’t. Neuroscience, coupled with brain imaging during pre-intervention, during the intervention and post-medical intervention, can provide insights into what works for whom and why,” he said.Giving insights into his research at the New Haven, Connecticut-based Haskins Laboratories, Dr Pugh stressed the need of taking advantage of ed-tech in these areas. “There has not been any good ed-tech for pre-schoolers. For example, the children with cochlear implants are at elevated risk for all kinds of literacy problems. We have technology that can reinforce not just learning or reading, but also the 21st century skills,” said Dr Pugh.
