Veteran actress Deepti Naval files complaint for receiving threat mails

Deepti said, “I do not want to talk anything about it... The cops told me that the mail that I have received is a trash mail and asked me to ignore it.”

Veteran actress Deepti Naval has filed a complaint with cyber crime after receiving a malware scam email threatening to publicise her internet browsing history and demanding Rs 3.9 lakh within 24 hours.

While talking to a leading daily, the actress said, “I do not want to talk anything about it... The cops told me that the mail that I have received is a trash mail and asked me to ignore it.”

According reports police are taking the help of the cyber crime cell to track the server from where the mail was sent. Cyber crime expert and investigator Ritesh Bhatia said he too had received a similar mail on July 25 demanding $3,000 in bitcoin and told the leading daily, “I ignored the mail as I know it is fake. In the past two weeks, I have received over 20 calls from victims, but no one wants to approach the cops... Scammers don’t have any video or pictures of you... Just because they have emailed you your correct username and password, does not mean they have compromised your device.”

Meanwhile, state cyber crime cell superintendent of police Balsing Rajput said that in the last four days they have received at least nine calls complaining about similar threats. “Guidance and support has been provided to them,” he said.
