A Supreme Court bench headed by Chief Justice of India SA Bobde and justices AS Bopanna and V Ramasubramanian will be hearing a plea challenging the Bombay High Court order granting bail to Rhea Chakraborty in the drug-related charges.

A Supreme Court bench headed by Chief Justice of India SA Bobde and justices AS Bopanna and V Ramasubramanian will be hearing a plea challenging the Bombay High Court order granting bail to Rhea Chakraborty in the drug-related charges.

The NCB has moved SC challenging the Bombay HC decision. In its plea, the NCB has said that the court 'erred' in granting bail to Chakraborty as it 'ignored' the observations of the agency.

On October 7 last year, the Bombay High Court had granted bail to Chakraborty and asked her to submit a personal bond of Rs 1 lakh. The High Court had rejected the plea of her brother Showik Chakraborty, who is co-accused in the case. A special Mumbai court later granted bail to him.

Chakraborty, her brother and others were held in September 2020 by the Narcotics Control Bureau , when the matter came to light during the investigation in the Sushant Singh Rajput death case.

While granting bail to Chakraborty, the court had asked her to deposit her passport and barred her from leaving the country without the permission of the court. The court had also asked her to report to the NCB's office at 11 am on the first day of every month.

During the probe, the anti-drug agency had also questioned Bollywood A-listers such as actors Deepika Padukone, Sara Ali Khan, Arjun Rampal and his girlfriend Gabriella Demetriades, Rakul Preet Singh and Shraddha Kapoor besides others.
