Mumbai court rejects complaint against Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s movie, Gangubai Kathiyawadi

Mumbai civil court dismissed a suit seeking order against Bhansali Productions, upcoming movie Gangubai Kathiyawadi. The movie is based on the  Mafia Queens of Mumbai authored by Hussain Zaidi.

Mumbai civil court dismissed a suit seeking order against Bhansali Productions, upcoming movie Gangubai Kathiyawadi. The movie is based on the  Mafia Queens of Mumbai authored by Hussain Zaidi.

The movie is directed by Sanjay leela bhansali and starring Alia Bhatt in the lead role.

The suit was filed by  Babuji Shah who claimed to be the adopted son of Gangubai Kathiawadi.

Sanjay had filed a notice of motion seeking rejection of the suit against the grounds that Suit is barred by limitation the novel was published in 2011 and suit was filed only in December 2020.

Sanjay leela bhansali was represented by advocate Pradeep Gandhy and DSK legal team of Anand Desai, Chandrima Mitra, Parag Khandhar and Prachi Garg. Sanjay’s legal team said that Shah has not provided any proof for his claims nor was he able to show any document papers of adoption.

 Bhansali also told the court that Bhatt, who is added as a defendant in the suit, is only an artist and has no role in the production of the movie.

Judge RM Sadrani rejected the complaint filed by Shah and allowed the notice of motion filed by Bhansali Productions.

The movie was expected to arrive in theatres last year but due to the pandemic it was delayed. The movie is expected to hit theaters this year.
