EXCLUSIVE! Archana Puran on 'Shrimaan Shrimati' remake: Actors don't have freedom to edit their scripts

NYOOOZ contacted TV and film actress Archana  Puran Singh to know about her reaction on the remake of the show and about her yesteryear days.

After 24 years ‘Srimaan Srimati’ is all set to entertain the audience with a remake.  The director of the show Rajan Waghdhare has  already confirmed to a leading daily that he began shooting for the show seven months back and had already shot for 30-35 episodes.

He further informed the tabloid that the show nearly has the same script written by late Ashok Patole; only the dialogues have been modified to add contemporary touch.

Well, indeed it's a good news for all the 90s kids as they can refresh their memories with this new show.

The earlier show featured  Archana Puran Singh, Rakesh Bedi, late Jatin Kanakia, late Reema Lagoo. The show was a hit because of its good storylines and excellent comic performances from all the lead actors.

NYOOOZ contacted TV and film actress Archana  Puran Singh to know about her reaction to the remake of the show and about her yesteryear days.

How your particular character of ‘Doll’ came up?

We were unaware of the part that we would become a craze in the country. I remember,  Rakesh and I used to discuss the characters. Eventually, we created the characters of Doll and Dilruba. We used to make up for the shoot of the pilots. I shortened the word Dilruba to Dil and within a second he responded with Doll.  Within seconds the characters got confirmed.

Do you think creative freedom exist in today’s TV series shoot?

We used to create comedy.  Rajan Waghdhare used to give us full freedom to improvise. We used to shoot so quickly, I don’t think it’s so possible today.

What do you have to say about the new star-cast especially Barkha Bisht who will essay your role in the show

Barkha is a good actress and Suresh Menon too and I am sure they will definitely do the justice to the rule. I wish the new cast best of luck.

Any favourite memory you want to share your yesteryear’s shoot

It was not one memory, it was a memory of months and years of togetherness with Reema Lagoo, Jatin Kanakia, Rakesh Bedi and me on the sets of ‘Srimaan Srimati’. We used to shoot only four days a month and I always used to look forward to it as a party. We’ve shot the best serial of the world.

Any favourite dialogue

I remember one dialogue of calling Dilruba. A peculiar way of speaking to him and eventually made the character westernize.
