Kia Motors India today revealed the first official design sketch of the production-ready Sonet, which will make its world premiere on August 7. The concept version of Kia Sonet was unveiled at the Auto Expo 2020 and had immediately caught the attention of the visitors. The Sonet will be the automobile manufacturer`s second `Made in India` vehicle after the Seltos.

All of us are aware that Kia Sonet will enter the compact SUV segment and take on the likes of Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza and Hyundai Venue. Other challengers will be Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV300 and Ford EcoSport. The Sonet price is expected to be between Rs 8 lakh (ex-showroom) and Rs 13 lakh (ex-showroom).

From the official render, it becomes ample clear that the production-spec Sonet is quite similar in design to the Sonet concept we saw at the Auto Expo 2020. The compact SUV`s front sports the Kia signature `tiger-nose` grille with 3-D `stepwell` geometric mesh. There are projector headlamps with LED DRLs. The front bumper, with large fog lamp inserts, looks brawny. The dual-tone alloy wheels, blacked-out A and B pillars, black ORVMs and silver-finished roof rails accord a premium touch to the sides. At the rear, you will come across LED tail-lamps connected by an LED light bar.

Kia Motors India has not revealed all the interior details of the Sonet yet. But the compact SUV will come with a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system. You can expect Kia Sonet to be packed with features like automatic climate control, multifunction steering wheel, wireless phone charger, start-stop button, Bose premium audio system and sunroof.

In terms of powertrains, Kia Sonet will have the same three options that are available with Hyundai Venue -- 1.0-litre Turbo-GDI petrol (120PS/172Nm), 1.2-litre petrol (83PS/114Nm) and 1.5-litre diesel (100PS/240Nm). The transmission choices will vary between manual and automatic. Also available will be the new intelligent manual transmission (iMT), which was recently introduced in the Venue.
