BJP mobilizing forces against oppn: CPM

AGARTALA: The CPM state committee on Wednesday accused ruling BJP of mobilizing forces against the opposition, referring to an alleged attack on a CPM rally at Udaipur in Gomati district on Monday in which 25 CPM workers were assaulted, two of whom have been critically injured. ""As soon as the rally kicked off, unidentified BJP cadres started attacking," he said.Police, meanwhile, denied the allegation. Despite the presence of police personnel, 25 of our protesters were assaulted at the rally," CPM legislator and former minister Badal Choudhury said on Wednesday. However, CPM's rally had been organized without the administration's permission," SP (Gomati district) AR Reddy said. "We had organized a rally as part of the Left parties' nationwide demonstration against the murder of democracy in West Bengal and Tripura .

He added, "The party had sought permission for holding the protest rally four days ago. Initially, we were given permission. Hours before the programme, police informed us that the permission had been withdrawn. By then, we had completed our preparation and hundreds of our supporters had already assembled.""As soon as the rally kicked off, unidentified BJP cadres started attacking," he said.Police, meanwhile, denied the allegation. "Some unidentified men pelted stones at the protesters, injuring two people, including a policeman ... However, CPM's rally had been organized without the administration's permission," SP (Gomati district) AR Reddy said.
