AGARTALA: Hearing a petition by Indigenous Nationalist Party of Twipra (INPT), the Tripura high court , in an order on Monday, directed the state government to accord permission to all political parties to organize their programmes. The INPT had moved the high court last month after the Tripura police refused it permission to organize a demonstration. The INPT had wanted to hold the demonstration here on June 28, seeking an Assam-like national Register of Citizens ( NRC ) in the state.Chief Justice, Ajay Rastogi , directed the government to grant permission to INPT to hold a sit-in-demonstration in the city. "The court made it clear that denial of permission for an agitation violates the directives of the Supreme Court. The court advised the government to follow the rule of law as established in the country. It is true that maintaining law and order is a state subject but the state cannot deny any political party the right to hold a demonstration," said INPT general secretary Jagadish Debbarma , adding that the protest will now be held in front of Rabindra Shatabarshiki Bhawan on August 25.
