Tripura government to replace CID with crime branch

AGARTALA: The state government has decided to replace the criminal investigation department (CID) and enforcement branches of state police with a crime branch, like other big states. The crime branch will be entrusted with four areas - cyber crime, economic offences, narcotics control and serious crimes like crucial murders, planned killing and terrorism," Nath stated. Around 300 employees will initially be dedicated to the crime branch but gradually the number may increase as per requirement," Nath added. "The crime branch will be headed by an IG and a DIG. "As many as 38 posts of sub-inspectors and eight posts of head constables have been created for this.

Making this announcement on Thursday, law minister Ratan Lal Nath on Thursday said the council of ministers has already approved a proposal to this effect and action has been initiated to revamp the police under the newly-constituted crime branch."As many as 38 posts of sub-inspectors and eight posts of head constables have been created for this. The crime branch will be entrusted with four areas - cyber crime, economic offences, narcotics control and serious crimes like crucial murders, planned killing and terrorism," Nath stated."The crime branch will be headed by an IG and a DIG.
