The Congress in Tripura has reacted sharply to a Facebook post where Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb's teenaged son was seen flaunting a Light Machine Gun (LMG) in a Durga Puja pandal. Demanding an inquiry into the incident, senior Congress leader Subal Bhowmik said, “During Durga Puja the CM's son was roaming with a gun. We demand an inquiry to find out how he got the gun and whether it was licensed,” he said. “When supporters of opposition parties upload or share anything against the state government or the chief minister, they are immediately arrested and harassed by the police,” Bhowmik further said. Reacting to Bhowmik's statement, Tripura BJP spokesperson Nabendu Bhattacharjee said, “Congress leaders have started personal attacks after losing their identity in the state.”He also said that instead of making it public, the Congress leaders could have brought the issue in the knowledge of the department concerned.

The Congress in Tripura has reacted sharply to a Facebook post where Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Debs teenaged son was seen flaunting a Light Machine Gun (LMG) in a Durga Puja pandal. Demanding an inquiry into the incident, senior Congress leader Subal Bhowmik said, “During Durga Puja the CMs son was roaming with a gun. A photograph has also gone viral on social media.” “This could be dangerous for people. We demand an inquiry to find out how he got the gun and whether it was licensed,” he said. Alleging the police of not taking any action, the senior Congress leader said, “The police did not take any action as he is the CMs son.” “No inquiry was initiated because he is the chief ministers son,” he added. “When supporters of opposition parties upload or share anything against the state government or the chief minister, they are immediately arrested and harassed by the police,” Bhowmik further said. “No civilian is allowed to handle a service weapon as per rules. However, I am not aware of the facts,” said Assistant Inspector General (Law and Order) Subrata Chakraborty. Reacting to Bhowmiks statement, Tripura BJP spokesperson Nabendu Bhattacharjee said, “Congress leaders have started personal attacks after losing their identity in the state.” He also said that instead of making it public, the Congress leaders could have brought the issue in the knowledge of the department concerned.
