Tripura deputy Chief Minister, Jishnu Dev Verma has said that the state government wants to find a lasting solution to the BRU-Reang refugees issue by rehabilitating them. He said the previous left front government lacked the courage to solve the Bru-Reang refugee issue. More than 30,000 of these refugees have been living in refugee camps for the past 23 years. Adequate security arrangements have been made in the area to prevent any untoward incident, sources said.

Tripura deputy Chief Minister, Jishnu Dev Verma has said that the state government wants to find a lasting solution to the BRU-Reang refugees issue by rehabilitating them. He said the previous left front government lacked the courage to solve the Bru-Reang refugee issue. More than 30,000 of these refugees have been living in refugee camps for the past 23 years. He also hinted at initiating a dialogue with the leaders of the Joint Movement Committee (JMC) to break the deadlock over the Bru resettlement in Kanchanpur sub-division. Also read: Bru refugees demand their names in Tripura voters list The JMC had called for an indefinite strike in the sub-division, opposing the state governments move to resettle the Bru refugees. Different political parties have also extended their support to the ongoing agitation. Although section 144 was imposed in the region on October 18, thousand of agitators took to the streets defying the prohibitory order. Adequate security arrangements have been made in the area to prevent any untoward incident, sources said.
