In an unprecedented development, brutality of Tripura Police was on display in Agartala. The police took down the tents set up by the agitating terminated teachers of Tripura at Paradise Choumani area in Agartala, where hundreds of protestors were demonstrating against the State Government for almost 2 months. The police have also arrested over 300 protesting terminated teachers on Wednesday morning, who had been protesting peacefully at the site for close to 2 months. A massive force comprising police and central forces reached the protest site on Wednesday morning and took down the make-shift tents and arrested over 300 agitators. “Over three hundred teachers have been arrested and taken to RK Nagar Tripura State Rifles (TSR) 2nd Battalion camp on Wednesday morning,” Piyali Choudhury, one of the teachers leaders said. Also read: Pro-Khalistan groups demonstrate outside Indian embassy in United States in support of farmers protests It has been 52 days that as many as 10323 terminated teachers launched a protest against the Tripura Government demanding re-recruitment into various departments of the State Government. A group of representatives of the terminated teachers were slated to pay a visit to Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Deb on Wednesday and hold discussions. On Tuesday evening, the protesting terminated teachers also took out a mashaal (torch) rally in Agartala. “Some of the female protestors were arrested from their respective homes in the wee hours of Wednesday,” the protestors alleged. Meanwhile, District Magistrate (DM) of West Tripura district has imposed Section 144 CrPC on Wednesday morning. These teachers had lost their jobs in March last year due to a Tripura High Court ruling in 2017 that termed their recruitment process to be faulty. These sacked teachers had been protesting peacefully on the road in Agartala since December 7 , braving cold weather.
