It will be for the first time that TIPRA will contest an election. Notably, the High Court of Tripura had ordered the State Government to conduct elections for the TTAADC by May 17. TIPRA further raised the issue of Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), saying that it was imposed on the people of Tripura forcefully. “When States like Manipur, Arunachal, Mizoram, Nagaland which has never accepted even one displaced and persecuted minority as an equal citizen of the State, Tripura opened up its gate on grounds of humanity. The CAA exempted these States but imposed this act on us, this was a clear case of vote bank politics,” TIPRA said in its statement. “Our sentiments are hurt and we hope and urge that the Supreme Court will give us justice in this matter,” TIPRA further added.
