Tripura Sacked teachers protest against police atrocities in Agartala

Sacked teachers of Tripura on Monday organized a protest rally in front of the Rabindra Shatabarshiki Bhavan in Agartala against the atrocities inflicted on them by the police in January. About 10323 teachers of Tripura had lost their jobs in March last year after the Supreme Court termed their recruitment process faulty. They have been camping in Agartala since December 7 last year, demanding the state government to provide them with employment. The police forcefully removed these protesting teachers from their site of protest on the morning of January 27. However, BJP MLA Dilip Das, who is a doctor, pressurized other doctors to release the injured teachers, which was inhuman,” said Dalia Das who is leading the teachers' protest.

With placards in hand, they raised slogans against the states police administration and questioned on whose orders the teachers had been beaten. About 10323 teachers of Tripura had lost their jobs in March last year after the Supreme Court termed their recruitment process faulty. They have been camping in Agartala since December 7 last year, demanding the state government to provide them with employment. The police forcefully removed these protesting teachers from their site of protest on the morning of January 27. More than 70 teachers were injured in the incident. “Teachers who had sustained injuries during the police attack were taken to the hospital. However, BJP MLA Dilip Das, who is a doctor, pressurized other doctors to release the injured teachers, which was inhuman,” said Dalia Das who is leading the teachers protest.
