AGRA: A Pocso (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) court in Aligarh on Saturday sentenced a 23-year-old man to 20 years imprisonment for raping a 13-year-old girl in a case dating back two years. Additionally, the court imposed a fine of Rs 40,000 on the accused. According to Mahesh Singh, the additional district government counsel (ADGC), the incident occurred in February 2021. The police arrested and sent the accused to jail after the victims family filed a report. "In their complaint, the family stated that the accused entered their house and raped the minor when her parents were not there. Upon hearing the girls cries, her relatives, who lived next door, rushed to the scene and tried to apprehend the accused. However, he managed to escape," Singh said. A case was registered and the victim was also sent to the district hospital for medicals.Weeks later, the police submitted a chargesheet to the Pocso court, invoking sections 376 , 506 , and the POCSO Act. (The victims identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme court directives on cases related to sexual assault)
