AGRA: A 50-year-old man died after falling into a five-foot-deep open drain near Chhalesar police outpost on the Agra-Kanpur national highway around 11pm on Saturday. The victim, Munnalal, was on his way home in Nagla Mani village under the jurisdiction of Etmadpur police station from a cold storage centre in Agra, where he worked as a security guard.Police said a passerby informed his son, Anil Kumar, after which Munnalals body, along with his cycle, was recovered from the drain that lies between the NH and service lane the next morning. ACP Saurav Singh said, "A complaint has been received from the family of the deceased. However, they have not blamed any individual. Details related to the accident are being investigated. We are waiting for the autopsy report to ascertain the cause of death." Residents claim the highway has no boundary walls or fencing along the drain, and despite repeated complaints, the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) authorities have failed to cover it.NHAI project director (Agra section) Sanjay Verma said, "We have taken cognisance of the matter, and a team was sent for spot inspection and investigation. Further action will be taken accordingly."
