Mathura temple to celebrate moon landing on Janmashtami

AGRA: Janmashtami celebrations at Shri Krishna Janmasthan temple in Mathura this year will be dedicated to Isro scientists for the successful Chandrayaan-3 mission.Kapil Sharma, secretary, Sri Krishna Janmasthan Seva Sansthan, said on Monday, "The improvised abode where the deity will sit on September 7 midnight is named Somnath Pushp Bangla to highlight the efforts of Isro chairman S Somnath." He added: "The special attire for the Krishna idol has been named Pragyan Prabhas, after the Pragyan rover [Prabhas is splendour in Hindi]. Designers from Bengal and Delhi are giving final touches to the special attire." Temple management body member Gopeshwar Nath Chaturvedi said, "Chandrayaan-3 has reached the Moons South Pole. On such a great achievement, every citizen of the nation hails the tenacity, sacrifice and hard work of the scientists. In a special and grand celebration of the 5,250th birth anniversary of Chandravanshi Lord Krishna, features to celebrate Isro scientists have been incorporated. A special artwork of Pragyan rover will be placed at the sacred Bhagwat Bhavan, in front of the deitys seat." On August 23, the day the lander module Pragyan touched down, special prayers were offered at key temples in Mathura for its success. Shri Krishna Janmasthan temple trust members said elaborate arrangements have been made for Janmashtami celebrations, with cloakrooms, medical camps and free food for devotees. The temple premises are being decked up with flowers and lights of multiple hues. The festival will begin with the blowing of shehnai and beating of drums. Chief minister Yogi Adityanath may also visit the place. "The portals of the temple will remain open from 5.30am (on Thursday) till 1.30am the next day" Sharma said.To cater to lakhs of devotees expected to visit the temple on Janmashtami, the authorities are preparing prasadam with non-perishable items. Chief medical officer Dr Ajai Kumar Verma said medical facilities will be available at every makeshift cloakroom in the temple.The Central Reserve Police Force and Rapid Action Force will be deployed, SP (security) Anand Kumar said. "Additional force from the Agra range will be brought in for the festival," he added.
