4 drown during Ganesh idol immersion in Agra, Mainpuri

AGRA: Four devotees died due to drowning in separate incidents during Ganesh visarjan ceremonies in Mainpuri and Agra districts.An incident occurred during the Ganesh immersion in a pond near the Markandeya temple in Mainpuri, UP, on Thursday evening when four devotees accidentally slipped in the water. Divers, who were already on-site, rescued the victims and rushed them to the hospital. Three were pronounced dead, while the fourth is currently under medical care.According to Vinod Kumar, Mainpuri superintendent of police (SP), said, "The deceased have been identified as Bijendra Shakya (40), Aryan Shakya (18) and Atul Kumar (26), all residents of Dalupur village under the jurisdiction of the Barnhal police station in Mainpuri. The injured person has been identified as Ajay Kumar (25), a resident of the same village."Avinash Kumar Singh, sub-divisional magistrate in Ghiror, Mainpuri, said, "We have visited the homes of the deceased and assured their grieving families of adequate compensation. A formal recommendation for compensation has been forwarded to the higher authorities."In a separate incident within the Agra district, six young individuals faced a similar fate during the immersion in Khaspura village under the jurisdiction of the New Agra police station. Three of the youths were rescued and are safe. However, on Friday morning, the body of Shivam Kumar (22) was discovered approximately 4 km away from the village.The Provincial Armed Constabulary and the State Disaster Response Force are currently searching for Ram Baran (20) and Babu Singh (21), said police.Meanwhile, two brothers lost their lives as they drowned in the Ganga River in Haridwar on Thursday while taking a bath. The victims, identified as Sahil Obrai (30) and Gautum Obrai (34), hailed from Kiratpur, Mohali, Punjab, and had recently arrived in the area. According to the police, they operated a water purifier business in Mohali."The brothers had initially taken a bath at Harki Pauri and immersed a Ganesh idol. They then moved to the Saptrishi area, where they once again entered the river but were swept away. We searched for them on Friday too, but their bodies were not found," city circle officer Juhi Manral said. TNN
