AGRA: A 35-year-old man from UPs Etah district was crushed to death by two neighbours who wanted to claim his Rs 30 lakh insurance. They were arrested on Sunday, police said.Charan Singh, a street food vendor from Nagla Seer village under Awagarh police station limits, was found dead by the roadside on September 25. Based on his familys complaint, an initial FIR was registered against his wife and in-laws stating the couple was having fights over the wifes alleged affair with another man. They alleged that the woman and her lover killed Charan. However, during investigation, police didnt find any clues to substantiate the allegations. Based on Charans call records, police grew suspicious of two local villagers -- Virendra and Raghuraj (first names available) -- with whom he had interacted hours before his death and apprehended them on Sunday. Senior superintendent of police (SSP), Rajesh Kumar Singh, said, "During interrogation, the duo confessed to killing Charan over his Rs 30 lakh insurance. They got him drunk and used a loading vehicle to run over him multiple times." The SSP added, "In January, the accused convinced Charan to get a life insurance policy in which his brother, who is mentally disabled, was made a nominee. They even paid the first premium to gain his trust." SHO Manoj Kumar said, "The accused managed to get his Aadhaar card, PAN card and signatures by assuring him of a job under the Pradhan Mantri Rojgar Yojna. The documents were recovered from them. Five people were involved in the murder. The two arrested were sent to jail. Were searching for the remaining three." According to villagers, Charan is survived by his wife and three minor kids. "Over the past two years, he had fallen into bad company and often returned home drunk. His wife used to warn him to stay away from the accused but he did not listen and instead blamed her for having an affair," a relative said.
