4 decades on, law catches up with 81-yr-old murder accused

AGRA: More than four decades after he beat a man to death, changed his identity as he served sweets to customers in Indore, the long arm of the law finally caught up with Shivraj Singh.Firozabad police arrested Singh, now 81, from Hira Nagar in Madhya Pradeshs Indore, where he had been living under a new identity while working at a sweet shop in the area.In May 1982, Badan Singh, a resident of the Tharputha locality under the Ramgarh police station in Uttar Pradesh, was beaten to death following a land dispute. Seven people, including Shivraj, were initially arrested by the police. However, each of them managed to secure bail over time. While six of the accused died during the course of the trial, Shivraj, out on bail, went missing after selling off his house and other properties. "The Court had issued an arrest warrant against Shivraj. The police had been searching for him for the last four decades. Family members and relatives kept telling the police that the accused was not traceable," Ramgarh SHO Ravi Tyagi said."Recently, we reached out to two of his married daughters, who are settled in Delhi and Indore. Using the information gathered from them and technical resources, Shivraj was finally located and arrested," Tyagi said.
