After 14 day trial, man gets life term for sexually assaulting 13-year-old Dalit boy

AGRA: A Pocso (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) court in UPs Farrukhabad district on Wednesday sentenced a man to life imprisonment for sodomising a 13-year-old Dalit boy in a trial that lasted a mere 14 days. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on the convict. According to police, the incident occurred on August 2 this year. The minors father, in his complaint, alleged that when the boy was sleeping on the terrace, the accused, a resident of the same locality, subjected him to sexual assault. "On the basis of the complaint received, the accused was arrested and a case was registered under various sections including the SC/ST Act. The charge sheet was filed in court on September 27," the districts superintendent of police (SP), Vikas Kumar, said. Speaking to TOI, additional district government counsel (ADGC), Abhishek Saxena, said, "Following the submission of the charge sheet, the court expedited the proceedings by hearing the case on a daily basis. The special Pocso judge, Sumit Premi, delivered the verdict within just a fortnight." SP said that "a thorough investigation and effective prosecution resulted in swift justice in this case.".
