Tension in Aligarh as two communities clash over changed `shobha yatra` route

AGRA: One person was injured in clashes that broke out between members of two communities when organisers of a shobha yatra tried to change the processions route to make it pass through a sensitive area of Aligarh city on Sunday night.Senior officials rushed to the spot with a heavy police force and brought the situation under control. Two separate FIRs were registered at Chandaus police station and five people were arrested.Superintendent of Police (City) Mrigank Shekhar Pathak said, "The situation is under control and police have been deployed at the spot. An investigation is under way and action will be taken accordingly." In the first FIR filed by sub-inspector Jitender Singh, unidentified people belonging to two communities were booked under IPC sections 147 (rioting) ,148 (rioting, armed with a deadly weapon), 149 (unlawful assembly), 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant), 336 (endangering life or personal safety of others), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace), and 506 (criminal intimidation). Singh, who was deployed with the yatra, said the clash between two groups erupted when organisers of the Lord Ram Bharat Shobha Yatra tried to alter the sanctioned route of the procession and make it pass through a sensitive area. Members of the other community opposed them. The injured Mukesh Sharma was rushed to a hospital. The second FIR was registered on Sharmas complaint in which two men belonging to the minority community and 10 unknown persons were booked under IPC sections 147, (rioting), 148 (rioting, armed with a deadly weapon), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) and 506 (criminal intimidation).According to police sources, raids are being conducted to arrest the culprits.
