Indian Army team shines at International Tri-Adventure competition in Nepal

AGRA: An Indian Army team of five athletes, led by Major Sachin Singh Kuntal, proved its mettle in the sixth edition of the Chief of Army Staff International Tri-Adventure Competition, which was organized in Nepal. The Indian Army team won the title of the best international team among 21 countries including UK and USA armed forces and other civilian teams. Overall, the Indian contingent secured third position in the prestigious competition hosted by Nepal. The top two positions were retained by the teams of Nepali Army. In the previous edition of the triathlon, the armed police force of Nepal had secured the third position.The competition took place from October 11 to 22 on the treacherous Bairini – Charaudi stretch in Dhading district of Nepal. This adventure sporting event assessed teams based on three parameters, which included a 6.7 kilometer run, a 26-kilometer cycling race, and an 11 kilometer river rafting challenge. It was an honour to participate and lead a highly motivated team in the prestigious CAOS International Tri-adventure competition. We have trained rigorously for the event. Following a robust team effort, we emerged as the best international team and secured the Bronze cup. We aim to train harder and aspire to grab the top spot in the next edition of the competition, said Major Kuntal who trained as a para commando.The other team members include Naik Gagan Nepal, Lance Naik Sanju ad Zabiullah and sepoy Sonawane Walmik Sahebrao. Recently, an Army adventure wing team led by Major Sachin Kuntal secured four out of the top five positions at the high-altitude ultramarathon Sethan Dome – Hampta summit run. Major Kuntal, who hails from Mathura district, also led his services team and participated in the worlds most grueling endurance triathlon, the IronMan 70.3, Goa. The team led by the officer finished the race, which comprised sea swimming, cycling, and running, in 4 hours, 42 minutes, and 39 seconds, well within the cut-off time of 8 hours and 30 minutes.The Surya Command adventure team of the Indian Army led by Major Kuntal was adjudged as the best team in hill running during the 10-day long Army adventure cup 2023. I took inspiration to participate in pro-level endurance competitions from my elder brother lieutenant colonel Swaroop Singh Kuntal who had won the title of Ultraman India, he said.
