Cop suspended over Insta gun reel reinstated, then sacked in 48 hours

AGRA: In the end, the reel on Instagram with a pistol in hand turned out to be a smoking gun for UP police constable Priyanka Mishra, 24.Mishra, who was suspended in 2021 for posting an Instagram reel clad in her police uniform and holding a service pistol, has been terminated within 48 hours of being "reinstated" into the police force in Agra. A senior officer said on Monday that a police department clerk got her reinstatement order passed on October 18 "in violation of norms and without consulting other officials". Resident of Kanpur district, Mishra joined the UP police in 2020 as a constable and was posted at Agras MM Gate police station. Mishra purportedly shot the widely-circulated video in the stations storeroom and had used one of the revolvers from the stock. She later resigned from police service when the incident turned into a major controversy. This year, she again applied to work for the police department. Her job application was "approved and she was posted in Agra". However, Agra police commissioner Dr Preetinder Singh cancelled her appointment within 48 hours of her "reinstatement", terming it "erroneous". Singh said, "Priyanka Mishra had applied for reinstatement to the police service, citing financial difficulties. Her file had been sent by the joint director- prosecution for legal counsel. But instead of answering the queries raised by the joint director-prosecution, a police department clerk got her reinstatement order passed on October 18." The police commissioner added that when the file came for his approval, he cancelled the order and the clerk was suspended. "A departmental probe has been ordered into the entire matter. The authority to reinstate a person who previously resigned from the service lies with the headquarters," he pointed out.Mishra refused to comment on the matter after her termination from service. In the clip which she later uploaded on her Instagram account, Mishra was seen lip-syncing to a dialogue -- spoken by a male in Hindi (in the background) -- that appears to laud what is described as UPs culture of "rangbaazi (showing off)". The speaker seems to compare UPs perceived notoriety with that of Punjab and Haryana, before suggesting that children as young as five years old have access to guns in the state. The speaker can be heard saying: "Haryana, Punjab toh bekaar hi badnaam hai. Aao kabhi Uttar Pradesh. Rangbaazi kya hoti hai hum tumhe batate hain... naa gunday pe gaana banaate hain, naa gaadi pe Jat-Gujjar likhaate hain. Humare yahaan 5-5 saal ke launde katta chalaate hain (Haryana and Punjab unnecessarily have a bad name... Come to UP. Neither do we glorify crime with songs, nor do we display our caste on our cars. In UP, kids as young as five know how to use guns)."
