Patalkot Express catches fire in Agra, 3 injured

Agra: Three passengers were injured as two coaches of Patalkot Expresstrain, on way from Firozpur in Punjab to Seoni in Madhya Pradesh, caught fire near Bhandai railway station under Malpura police station in Agra district on Wednesday afternoon. It took more than two hours for five fire tenders to extinguish the flames. Over a dozen trains, including Vande Bharat express, were stopped for a few hours.According to sources, smoke billowed out from one of the coaches and soon fire engulfed the general seating (GS) coach, the fourth one from the engine. Soon, another GS coach ahead of it got engulfed in flames. The train was immediately brought to a halt, and passengers were evacuated. The two coaches were then detached from the train. The cause of the fire is yet to be determined. No casualty has been reported as of now, said Agra railway division commercial manager Prashasti Srivastava. A senior railway official said, The fire in the coach was noticed by the station master during signal exchange when the train was passing the Bhandai station at 3:35 pm. He sounded an alert and the Over Head Equipment (OHE) was turned off. Within five minutes, the train stopped and the process of detaching the affected coaches was initiated. Fire tenders arrived at 4:23 pm. Quick response averted a major incident. DCP Sonam Kumar said, A police team rushed to the spot and rescued the passengers. No one suffered fatal injuries. Three passengers were taken to hospital. A forensic team was called to investigate the matter. Those injured include Mohit Kumar (21) from Noida, Rahul Kumar (18) from Jhansi and Shivam (18) from Palwal.
