Mother of 3 girls loses kidneys as hubby, kin give pills to bear male child in Agra

AGRA: A 35-year-old mother of three minor girls is battling for life in hospital with severe damage to both kidneys after she was forced to take a variety of medicines and herbal compositions so that she would give birth to a boy. The woman, undergoing treatment for the last three months, has filed a police complaint and an FIR has been registered against her husband and his family - his parents, sister and brother-in-law.Ruby, who got married to Ashish Kumar of Jagdishpura in Agra district in 2015, had earlier given birth to three girls, who are now seven, four and one.Ashish and his family allegedly physically and mentally tortured Ruby for failing to bear a male child.In her complaint to the police, Ruby said, "I was given a variety of medicines and herbal concoctions by the family." Hubby, in-laws tortured me for dowry, refused to pay medical expensesI resisted, but my husband threatened to leave me if I did not take the medicines. They claimed that the medicines would make me give birth to a boy, Ruby added. According to the FIR, the medicines given to her resulted in both her kidneys failing and she had to undergo frequent dialysis. In May, she narrated her ordeal to her brother Ashu. As her health condition worsened, Ruby took her daughters and moved to her parents house in Shahganj, Agra district, three months ago. Her family claimed that they tried to file a police complaint earlier but cops refused to comply. It was only after she reached out to the additional commissioner of police Keshav Choudhary on October 29 that an FIR was registered. Ruby added, My husband and inlaws abandoned me after I developed kidney-related complications. They refused to bear the medical expenses or help me in any way. She added that her husband and in-laws also tortured her for dowry. Shahganj police SHO Alok Singh said, The matter is being investigated. The medical reports of the complainant are being examined. An FIR has been registered under IPC sections 498-A (cruelty), 307 (attempt to murder), 328 (causing hurt by means odd poison etc), 323, 504 (intentional insult), 506 and sections pertaining to the Dowry Prohibition Act.
