AGRA: Ahead of Karva Chauth, members of certain right-wing groups have conducted a "drive" in UPs Muzaffarnagar to single out mehndi artists -- both men and women -- from the minority community, forcing them to leave beauty parlours and salons.At the citys New Mandi area, residents said "men in groups" were looking for Muslim artists to stop them from applying mehndi to Hindu women.Many of them were forced to head home. Faizal, who didnt want to give his second name as he "will have to come back here tomorrow for work", said, "There were warnings against us recently, but we came to the salon on Tuesday Its our job. But things turned ugly. It was best to leave." He added, "I and a few others have been working in this salon for years. We do not want to file a complaint. We have a living to make."Neeraj Khanna, who runs a local cosmetic shop, said, They (right-wing members) were angry, rude and intimidating. Customers felt threatened... DSP (New Mandi), Hemant Kumar, said on Tuesday, "A police team went to the spot. But, no police complaint was filed. Action will be taken if someone files a complaint."Lalit Maheshwari, a member of Vishva Hindu Parishad, said, "This is an attempt to save our women from love jihad. Some people start exchanging their phone numbers while applying meeandi and do other things.
