Hindus, Muslims hold event for return of ex-naval officers from Qatar

AGRA: Members of the Hindu and Muslim communities organised an event in Muzaffarnagar to show solidarity with eight former naval officers facing the death penalty in Qatar. The event, in which the national anthem was sung by participants, was organised in the Kukra area in which dozens of members from both communities demanded that the Indian government take steps to bring back the former officers. Event organiser Manish Chaudhary said the entire country stands with them. "Today, a demand is being made from this platform to the government that the eight sailors be brought back safely from Qatar," he said.A week ago, Qatar sentenced to death eight former Indian naval officers who were held there on suspicion of espionage. The Indian government expressed deep shock at the sentence passed by the Court of First Instance in Qatar. Last year, the ministry of external affairs stated that it is constantly in touch with the Qatar government regarding the imprisonment of the former officers.
