Crackers banned around Krishna Janmasthan, Shahi Idgah

Agra: Ahead of Diwali, the Mathura district administration banned the storage, sale and bursting of firecrackers in red and yellow zones around the Krishna Janmasthan temple and adjoining Shahi Idgah mosque in the heart of the town. The Shri Krishna Janmasthan, the birthplace of Lord Krishna, and the Shahi Idgah Masjid share a common wall, and there is an age-old dispute surrounding it.Numerous litigations have reached courts and are now being heard by the Allahabad high court. Both the religious sites lie in the red zone covering 13.37 acres, while an area of 20 acres outside it is the yellow zone comprising localities such as Govindnagar and Jagannathpuri. The rest of the city has been earmarked as a green zone. The decision has been taken in view of sensitivity of the premises and the festival of Diwali ahead. Wholesale or retail sale of crackers and fireworks display will be restricted within the red and yellow zones, said city magistrate Umesh Chand Nigam. Bollywood star Sara Ali Khan was reportedly on board during the incident. The companys manager and pilot are facing charges for violating wildlife provisions. The chopper landed in the Madmaheshwar temple area, which is inside the restricted zone. Chopper movement in protected areas requires prior clearance from forest authorities. The area is home to several endangered animal species, and excessive chopper activity has been criticized for disturbing wildlife.
